Seniors: Desertmartin 1-20 Foreglen 4-06

Desertmartin secure another two points

A
late 59th minute penalty for Foreglen was only cosmetic as far as the
score line was concerned in this Division 1B game on Sunday at
Desertmartin. From the throw-in Desertmartin were always in control and
at the break led 1-10 to 2-05. Indeed Foreglen's two goals in the first
half came as a result of the Desertmartin defence getting sucked too
far forward. Two high balls in and the Foreglen forwards electing to
shoot low giving the Martin's keeper no chance. Johnny Trainor was in
superb form firing over eight points.

Johnny
McGovern, now in the forward line, (last season spending most of his
time at mid-field), rewarded his coaches with three inspirational
points from play. Ryan Kidd, having spent most of his time on the bench
last season, now growing in confidence with each game played some
excellent football and scored a very nice point from an acute angle.

Ruari
Murray just back from the Ulster U21 Final was in fine form and a
constant thorn in Foreglen's forwards got his name on the score -board
with a point from play. Danny Murray and Paul Kelly totally dominated
the mid-field yet again and Murray scored a lovely point from play.

Desertmartin
only goal came from a high ball into Eamon McBride who fisted to the
back of the net. Foreglen's confidence suffered a blow when they were
awarded the first of two penalties in the second half. The first
penalty struck the crossbar and was quickly cleared by another Derry
U21 Paddy Kidd.

After this costly miss
Foreglen's confidence slowly ebbed away and in the second half added
three scores to their total, two of them goals. Desertmartin on the
other hand added ten scores. This was a very good result for
Desertmartin. The new management structure appears to be starting to
blossom – let's hope there are no late frosts!
